Always look at the players waiting to act after you. On the opening betting round, this can let you know whether you’re in danger or whether you’re in a seating position that’s stronger than it appears.
If you’re two seats before the dealer position (button) and you can determine that neither of the next two opponents waiting to act will play, then you essentially are on the button! If so, you can take command with hands you couldn’t have played without this knowledge.
