When people’s minds are focused on something beyond the current topic being discussed, their comments sound unconvincing. It’s as if they’re only throwing key words your way in an attempt to camouflage the fact that they aren’t closely following the conversation.

Sometimes their replies are incoherent. What does this have to do with poker?

Natural

Well, players who are bluffing have trouble conversing casually and keeping their words sounding natural and rational. They’re under too much stress. So, whenever you’re in doubt about whether an opponent is bluffing, start a conversation.

If the response is natural and relaxed, your opponent is probably confident about the hand. If, instead, the response seems forced and unnatural, there’s a high probability that your opponent is bluffing. — MC
